Bing, Boom , Bang. Fireworks!

I have never quite understood what appears to be a absolute obsession with fireworks by the folks who visit the lakes each year. I suppose that it could be considered a tradition that is an important part of going to camp , eating hot dogs, campfires and summer vacation. And then there are those who think it's an American thing to do to make loud noises in order to celebrate the birth of the United States.

I could sign on to that if it could be limited to the week of the fourth when these national holidays occur. But don't you know, you've got the folks who think that the whole summer is just one long party.....and hey.....there ain't no rules up here in Cow Hampshire......unlike Taxachussets!

They think we don't need to get up and go to work....and our dogs, livestock, and wildlife, they're all deaf....so what the hell, they'll just shoot off those loud bangs any and every day at any time God dammit. They're on vacation! And you're an asshole if you don't like it.

But wait a minute. Aren't they coming up here to get away from all the noise of the city? Yet the first thing they do is jump on some motorized contraption with a modified exhaust while wielding a bottle rocket in one hand and a beer in the other.
There's a symphony of nature's music out there every minute. Just stop and listen for it. The birds, peepers, coyotes, and bugs are jamming up a storm every day if you would just slow down and take it in. The wind and the loons calling......pure heaven. The quiet and clean air gently lowering you into a state of deep relaxation.....try it!
Who needs anything more?

Aren't they coming here for clean water to swim and fish in? It's a fact that fireworks over the lake and around the shore actually pollute the lake. https://www.des.nh.gov/organization/commissioner/pip/factsheets/bb/documents/bb-60.pdf

Go to Disney World if you want the real thing. Once you've seen their fireworks display, you will be ashamed to light off those diddly bangers you paid big money for.

All is not lost. If you want to make loud bangs, do it the New Hampshire way!
1: Load up the car (or truck) with your guns .
2: Head over to our local gun range http://nycrgc.org/ where you won't annoy anybody or pollute our precious lake.
3: Shoot until you run out of ammo. There's nothing quite like the feeling of the concussion of a 357 magnum. If that ain't enough, take off those ear muffs and your ears will be ringing in no time.
I find shooting at the range very relaxing.
You should try it instead of fireworks. Fair enough?
And no, I don't want to harm any living thing with my guns.

Jim, I agree the fireworks get out of hand. BUT it is not always the lake visitors who provide the noise and chaos all summer. The locals blast fireworks all summer long as well. I can’t blame the summer people for all of it and you should maybe take a look around and widen your view on the people doing it.

You make a good point. I have learned something from it. Although my experience is from living on the lake, I should not blame our visitors solely for the problem. I meet some great folks every day who come here from away that are kind and considerate.

Every post I read on FB re Wakefield refers to lake people. We have lived here only four years. Didn’t buy property on a lake but rather on agriculture land. We are as much a part of the town as everyone else. But one would never know it if they read these posts.
