American..to be..or not to be.

It's tough for all of us to watch the continuing division during a time when we really need to come together. It might be helpful to look back into history as a way to help us move forward. Any time our country has been under attack, we Americans have always put our differences aside and come together to create a victory. We need to do that now. It's time to get back to "America first and party second". It's ok to oppose, but no longer ok to obstruct. It's time to look in the mirror and ask ourselves: "Are my actions the patriotic American thing to do?"

We are under attack from an enemy that we cannot see. No weapon can kill it, yet the gun stores have lots of business. Who will you shoot? Your neighbor?
You are protective of your "rights" but you want to stop others from coming to your town? What are you thinking? Isn't this still a free country?
I am as susceptible to the madness as any. I have to look in my own mirror every day. When I don't, the wifey reminds me to. Here are some basic thoughts that have helped me keep from going off the deep end.

1: We have no control over anyone or anything except ourselves. Whether it's here or Washington, trying to make others do what you think they should will only increase your frustration level.

2: See the politics for what it is. Both sides of the political divide have to come out of this claiming some sort of victory. The Republicans thought they were going to walk away with their plan. The Democrats countered with their own. Each side blames the other. Neither side will get everything they want and that's a good thing. That's why it is called negotiations. Don't be surprised and angered by it. Expect it to be like that. At the end of the day, they will come to an agreement because they have to. Remember this when both sides end up saying they "won".

3: Turn off your television news channel. It doesn't matter which one. The whole game is who can get the most viewers, so the crazier they get, the more shocked you are and the more you stay tuned. They will make you batshit crazy if you stay glued to them. Think about this. All those channels are owned by big business. The fear they instill in you makes you buy things and hate people you don't even know. Refuse to be manipulated.

4: It's ok to feel scared. It's what you do with those feelings that really matters. You can choose to feel angry or choose to remain calm. We need each other right now. Save the disagreements and nastiness for another day. I know we can do this.
